We couldn’t put it any better than Utah’s own website… “Zion National Park is like the set of a movie that’s so grand you know it’s fake, but you don’t care because it’s delicious to look at; the kind of movie where the art director was given carte blanche and didn’t worry about believability”. Must see’s are Kolob Canyons, Kolob Terrace, Main Canyon and the East side.

Take your time driving from Zion to Bryce as the scenery and geological wonders along the way are spectacular – especially once you hit Zion-Mount Carmel Highway – with lots of viewing areas to stop at and take in the sandstone spires, hanging gardens, canyons and rivers. Bryce Canyon is a fabulous place to lose yourself in nature's fantastical artistry, with the world’s largest collection of towering hoodoos (odd-shaped rock pillars), the epic Amphitheatre and Thor’s Hammer, plus great opportunities for stargazing.

The ultra-luxe resort of Amangiri can easily stand toe-to-toe with the hypnotic, oversized landscape it sits in; and, at the heart of the Grand Circle, the same goes for its activities and explorations. The early morning hot-air balloon flights, launching directly from Amangiri, are definitely not to be missed – taking in views over Lake Powell, Navajo Mountain, the Vermillion Cliffs and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Monument Valley lies south of Bluff via Highway 163 on the Utah/Arizona border and, because of its striking red rock spires, buttes and mesas, the valley is known all over the globe as the setting for dozens of movies and TV commercials. But go beyond the scenery, and get a taste of Navajo Culture at historic Goulding's Trading Post, best done with a Navajo guide to really make the most out of your visit.

Imagine the Grand Canyon with no people... Just the psychedelic-coloured canyon walls, the wind, and the river silent at the bottom of the gorge. That’s how it must have looked to the Native Americans who lived in and around the Grand Canyon 12,000 years ago and to the Spanish explorers who laid eyes on the rift in the 16th century. Fast forward to today, when more than six million people a year visit Grand Canyon National Park to experience its visitor centres, mule trips, train tour, helicopter rides and more.

Scottsdale is home to more than 100 galleries – nearly half of which are clustered in the Scottsdale Arts District, where art aficionados stroll the streets to gaze at the latest exhibits. The Valley of the Sun is flanked by spectacular mountain parks, national forests and other wilderness areas, all with trails for hikers, mountain bikers, climbers and other recreationists. There's something for every skill and exertion level: family-friendly loop trails that wend through Sonoran Desert flora and fauna, challenging ascents up peaks with huge scenic payoffs... even backpacking wilderness excursions for more experienced outdoor enthusiasts.
