Encircled by volcanoes, this region boasts scenic highland coffee plantations, such as Starbucks' Hacienda Alsacia Coffee Farm – the brand's singular coffee farm; delightful artisan towns like Sarchi; La Paz Waterfall Gardens with its diverse wildlife exhibits; and offers an excellent backdrop for activities like hiking, bird-watching, white-water rafting and canopy tours.

Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast, often overlooked, is a hidden gem with its warm waters, brilliant sunshine, swaying palms, spicy cuisine, distinctive Afro-Caribbean culture and untouched rainforests. The region exudes a relaxed vibe, enjoys a mild climate and is rich in wildlife. The Caribbean slopes of the Talamanca Mountains shelter a variety of elusive and endangered mammals such as pumas, ocelots and tayras. In the secluded Tortuguero National Park, unique birds, reptiles, and amphibians flourish, and it's celebrated for its sea turtle nesting sites. Though accessible only by boat or plane, it promises a truly unforgettable adventure.

This national park truly offers everything! Enjoy hiking to and around Costa Rica's most active volcano, which hasn't had a major eruption since 1968, zip-lining across verdant forests, embarking on natural history walks across hanging bridges and horseback riding to stunning waterfalls adorned with butterflies, blooms and diverse birdsong, including that of toucans. The park is also renowned for its hot springs, ideal for a luxurious soak following a day filled with adventure.

Stroll among the clouds at thousands of metres above sea level and soak in the misty ambiance of Monteverde Cloud Forest, a premier eco-tourism spot in Costa Rica. Spanning 26,000 acres of biological reserve, it brims with biodiversity, including over 500 bird species such as the elusive quetzal and the three-wattled bellbird, as well as jaguars, toucanets, pumas, monkeys and red-eyed tree frogs. It's also home to 420 orchid and 200 fern species, flourishing from the abundant moisture. The forest offers numerous exploration methods: eight miles of pristine hiking trails, an exhilarating skywalk, zip-lining and canopy tours.

Manuel Antonio National Park, the Central Pacific region's unrivalled attraction and likely Costa Rica's most visited tourist spot, is celebrated for being one of the smallest yet most diverse and picturesque national parks. It boasts lush forests, four breathtaking beaches and an abundance of wildlife, including tide pools teeming with crustaceans, endangered monkeys, sloths, Morpho butterflies, coatimundis, peccaries, iguanas, armadillos and various reptiles and amphibians. Its status as Costa Rica's cherished 'little' national park is well-deserved.
