Situated in the heart of East Africa and named in honour of the Maasai people, the Maasai Mara needs no introduction as the loveliest game reserve on the African continent. As host to the Great Migration – the greatest show on earth – and with exceptional, year-round game-viewing, no safari to East Africa is complete without a visit to the Mara. Regardless of when you visit, the Mara is a non-stop adventure thanks to the abundant wildlife viewing. It’s a world-renowned Big Five destination with exceptional populations of lion, leopard, thousand-strong buffalo herds, the rare black rhino and a thriving elephant population. Alongside these incredible animals are over 470 bird species, each with unique calls and colourful plumage. No matter the time of the year, there are plenty of opportunities to use your binoculars or camera.

Home to some of Kenya’s most iconic scenes, Amboseli is renowned for some of the densest populations of elephant in East Africa – and its presence of the last Super Tusker elephants – often seen marching single file across the dusty cracked earth. Between these giants and the large herds that can be seen criss-crossing the plains, Amboseli is the place for exceptional elephant viewing. Presided over by the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, this is truly a land of giants. The Kimana Sanctuary – where Angama Amboseli is set – is the first community conservancy established in Kenya, and is owned by 844 Maasai family members. Thanks to its perennial stream, the Sanctuary boasts the greatest habitat diversity and wildlife density in the area attracting scores of eland, reedbuck, warthogs in their hundreds, along with giraffe, zebra and wildebeest. Even the elusive leopard and lions can be seen here, along with many species of bird.
