En route to Banff, it's well worth making a stop in Canmore – it's a more authentic town than Banff, yet nearly as picturesque. Plus, it's a simple drive-through that allows you to enjoy the views without taking away from your time in Banff, since it's just about 15-20 minutes to the south. The oldest national park in Canada, Banff is a beauty of an outdoor playground, and certainly doesn’t scrimp on adventure – so much so it can be difficult to know where to start. But don’t miss a visit to glacial Lake Minnewanka, be sure to rent a bike and cycle the Banff Legacy Trail, and take dip in the Upper Hot Springs – its temperatures hovering around 40ºC.

In the morning, begin the short, one hour drive to the heartbreakingly beautiful, supremely tranquil Lake Louise – one of the wonders of the Canadian Rockies and the hiking capital of the world. Fed by trickling glaciers and overshadowed by soaring mountain peaks, the lake’s bright turquoise waters are simply stunning. In the afternoon, stay close to the hotel and go on a hike or a canoe ride, or try one of the many other activities, including horse-riding, rock-climbing, the Lake Louise gondola, sky-diving and paragliding. Summer in Lake Louise is filled with magical moments, from crisp early morning walks through dew-covered grass or paddling in its most Instagrammable lakes (Emerald, Moraine, Agnes and Lake Louise herself ), to traversing sub-alpine walking trails, majestic mountains and verdant forests on the hike up the popular Lake Agnes Tea House Trail, or sipping sundowners with your other half at the end of another golden day.

This drive is where you’ll experience the Canadian Rockies in all their glory, with a never-ending procession of mammoth mountains and jagged peaks, over 100 glaciers and pristine emerald-coloured lakes. Ask your hotel to pack you some snacks as the eateries en-route are minimal. And, for that perfect Kodak moment, look out for Athabasca Falls, just before you arrive in Jasper. A host of activities await within Jasper National Park, including guided hikes, mountain-biking, horse-riding, white-water rafting, the Jasper Tramway (Canada’s longest and highest guided aerial tramway), a trip down the scenic Athabasca River, boat tours on lovely Maligne Lake, the Glacier Skywalk and private, guided planetarium experiences.

It’s a long old stretch to Vancouver from Jasper (but a pretty one nonetheless), so we recommend breaking up your journey with a night in the charming European-style village of Sun Peaks.
There are so many ways to fill your days here, so to get you started, why not take a stroll along the scenic seawall at Stanley Park with its stunning views of the city skyline and surrounding mountains, or take an exhilarating 20-minute seaplane city tour, ending with an exhilarating spray of water on touchdown. Discover the diverse neighbourhoods, each with its own unique charm. Explore the trendy shops and eateries of Gastown, wander through the colourful streets of Chinatown, or soak up the bohemian vibe of Commercial Drive. For outdoor enthusiasts, there's no shortage of activities to enjoy. Hike or bike through the lush forests of Pacific Spirit Regional Park, or head to Grouse Mountain for skiing, snowboarding, and panoramic views of the city. Don't miss Granville Island, a bustling hub of artisan shops, galleries, and the famous Granville Island Public Market, where you can sample delicious local food and browse handmade crafts. And of course, no visit to Vancouver is complete without a trip to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, where you can walk among the treetops on a thrilling suspension bridge and explore the stunning rainforest setting.
