Europe’s Golden Age of Rail
Why Choose the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express?
There are faster ways to cross Europe. More practical ones too. But few compare to boarding the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Original 1920s Art Deco carriages – marquetry panels, Lalique glass and lacquered interiors – travel between some of Europe’s great cities, with multi-course dinners, champagne, live piano and breakfast brought to your cabin. This is rail travel where getting there remains every bit as important as arriving.
Journeys operate from March to December.
Explore & Experience
By day, Europe passes the window: Alpine peaks, Italian lakes and cities connected by some of the continent’s most celebrated railway routes. Come evening, three historic restaurant cars set the scene for dinner, from the black lacquer of L’Oriental to Côte d’Azur’s René Lalique glass. Seasonal produce is collected along the way, before attention turns to Bar Car ‘3674’, where cocktails, live piano and conversation continue late into the night – often followed by the train’s famous midnight brunch.
Rest & Recharge
Historic Cabins retain the original 1920s layout, with daytime seating converted into upper and lower berths at night. Suites add double or twin beds and marble en-suite bathrooms, while six individually designed Grand Suites pair private bedrooms and dining areas with 24-hour steward service and free-flowing champagne. Beyond them all is L’Observatoire: an entire carriage for two, with a bedroom, library, private dining room, freestanding bath and its own dedicated steward.
Journeys
One-night journeys connect cities including Paris, Venice, Florence, Prague, Budapest, Amsterdam and Brussels, with longer routes extending the experience across Europe. The legendary Paris to Istanbul journey takes five nights, travelling through Budapest and Romania before reaching Istanbul; the reverse routing finishes in Paris. Three-night Paris to Venice departures offer another way to spend longer aboard, combining days and nights on the train with one of its most celebrated European routes.
