Why Stay?

The Algarve is sold on its coastline. Domes Lake leads with water of its own, wrapped around a private seawater lake with the Atlantic – Praia da Falésia – just beyond.

Circled by three-quarters of a mile of wooden deck, scented with fig and almond trees, and the restaurants and bars set out along it, it makes for a gentler centre of gravity than the beach alone. Suites run to earthy interiors in marble and natural textures; the larger residences add kitchens, making this somewhere to settle into, not merely pass through.

There's sunrise yoga by the water, birdwatching in the neighbouring Vilamoura wetlands, and four restaurants and two bars to work through, including chef Olivier Da Costa's beachfront Àcosta with its much-photographed sunsets. Golfers are well placed too, with five courses within around five minutes, and the multi-award-winning Vilamoura Marina – the area's main hub for nightlife, shopping and entertainment – just 10 minutes away by car.
