Why Stay?
In the heart of Sorrento, Ara Maris trades clifftop isolation for urban sophistication – 49 contemporary rooms, a lemon-shaded pool and a rooftop that frames Vesuvius across the bay.
Steps from Piazza Tasso, Ara Maris opened in 2024 as Sorrento's modern answer to the coast's more traditional grand hotels. The design – contemporary Mediterranean with cobalt-blue tilework and pale stone – feels deliberately urban rather than resort-like, an aesthetic choice that suits the location perfectly. The 49 rooms (adults-only with children over 10 years welcome) feature private balconies overlooking either the Gulf of Naples or the property's citrus-filled garden. Cora Bistrot serves lunch by the pool beneath lemon trees, shifting into a more formal dining space after dark. And the Lumi Sky Lounge, perched on the rooftop, delivers exactly what you'd expect: Vesuvius views, Aperol spritzes and that particular golden-hour light the Bay of Naples does so well.
Positioning itself as the sophisticated launch pad rather than the final destination, the location does some serious work too. Sorrento's train station sits five minutes' walk away, the ferry port 10, and Pompeii, Positano and Capri are all absurdly accessible.
