Domes Zeen Chania was designed as a village, not a hotel – and it shows in how you make your way through it.

Berlin architects Lambs and Lions laid out the bungalows along stone alleys and tropical greenery, gathered around a central agora modelled on the Greek kafeneion, the café-square where a village does its mixing. The idea won it an AHEAD design award and, more to the point, it makes the place feel found rather than built: earthy suites in timber and rattan, private terraces opening to gardens or Aegean views, some with their own pools.
