Nestled just off the main road from Agios Nikolaos, St. Nicolas Bay Resort Hotel & Villas is a charming Greek retreat that offers the perfect blend of tranquillity and accessibility.
Arriving at the resort, it feels more like stepping back in time into a traditional Cretan village – a celebration of Grecian charm with vibrant splashes of colour, where cobblestone pathways are surrounded by lush, bougainvillea-lined gardens, fragrant lemon trees and cool olive groves. Local architecture has been given a thoroughly modern twist, resulting in striking interiors and multi-tiered terraces lead down to the dazzling pools, lush, landscaped grounds and sun-kissed private beach.
Two things really struck me on arrival. The first was that there are two separate reception areas – one for arrivals, and another for departures – which I thought was a really thoughtful touch, and the cosy alcoves dotted around the lobby made the check-in experience a whole lot more relaxing. The other was that, while the commanding cliffside setting overlooking the glittering Mirabello Gulf is absolutely spectacular, it could prove somewhat tricky to get around for those with small children or anyone that’s not too steady on their feet (though there are buggies for anyone who needs a little assistance).
