    Island of the winds

With some of the best beach clubs in the region, a fantastic selection of high-end hotels, golden beaches and plenty of nightlife options, Travel Director Sally Stileman couldn’t wait to explore the gorgeous Greek island of Mykonos. And it certainly didn’t disappoint!

    ISLAND REVIEW

Mykonos is the great glamour island of Greece and flaunts its sizzling St-Tropez-meets-Ibiza style and party-hard reputation.

“Last year I finally got to visit one of my bucket-list destinations, Mykonos – the stunning Greek island that seems to have it all… beautiful traditional, white-washed houses, striking blue-domed churches and of course the island’s trademark windmills. The cobbled streets of Little Venice in Mykonos Town are heaven for keen photographers who want to capture those quintessential “Greek” moments and breathtaking sunsets.

June through September is peak season, when both temperatures and prices are on the rise so, if you’re looking for something more relaxed with moderate temperatures and a slight breeze, then May is a lovely time to visit. The island is coming to life, prices are much lower and the island is much less busy, so it’s great value without compromising on any of the experiences! And one of the greatest attributes of the island for me was that it’s incredibly easy to get around so, wherever you stay, you’re never far from the action in Mykonos Town.

    BEST PLACES TO STAY

Want to be close to Mykonos Town and in easy reach of the island’s hotspots? Stay at Myconian Ambassador – part of the Myconian Collection.

It may not be directly on a beach, but that’s what makes it a more reasonable option. Several beaches are within walking distance, including Platis Gialos, renowned for its clear waters and fine sands. Best suited to adults only, who’ll enjoy the fun and funky vibe.

For families, the Mykonos Grand is ideal. The design mirrors that of a charming traditional Greek village. It’s in front of a small, calm beach – great for younger children and those who enjoy beach life. And the hotel also conveniently offers a free shuttle to Mykonos Town until midnight.

For lots of wow-factor though, like a honeymoon or a celebratory trip, then look no further than Myconian Collection’s Panoptis Escape, set high on the hill overlooking Elia Beach.

Carefully constructed to be built into the rocky hillside without destroying any of the natural elements, you’ll find rocks are a prominent feature throughout, so it’s totally unique and utterly mind-blowing.

Each suite has an enormous infinity pool overlooking the beautiful bay and is completely private. And, despite being set on the hill, it only takes a few minutes to get down to the beach via hotel shuttle.

There’s also a shuttle into Mykonos Town, or you can take the water taxi directly from the beach, a much more scenic alternative. With literally something for everyone here on Mykonos, it’s very easy to see why the island has garnered such an outstanding international reputation in recent years, so it’s definitely worth a visit, whatever your holiday vibe!”
