Founded by mountaineer Greg Mortimer, AE Expeditions has spent more than 30 years taking small groups into some of the planet’s wildest places. Its three purpose-built expedition ships – Greg Mortimer, Sylvia Earle and Douglas Mawson – carry no more than 130 passengers, keeping the emphasis firmly on time off the ship – by Zodiac, kayak or on foot – alongside experienced expedition teams. The fleet’s distinctive X-BOW® design also makes notoriously challenging stretches of water, including the Drake Passage, smoother and quieter to cross.

Expeditions operate year-round across polar and global destinations.

Explore & Experience
Days are built around getting off the ship, with Zodiac cruising, sea kayaking, trekking and snowshoeing joined on selected expeditions by polar snorkelling, scuba diving, camping and alpine climbing. Back aboard, naturalists, scientists and local specialists explore the wildlife, history and environments encountered along the way, with the newest ship, Douglas Mawson, adding a dedicated Citizen Science Centre for hands-on research.

Rest & Recharge
All cabins have ocean views and most feature private balconies, with accommodation extending to spacious suites with separate living areas. Beyond them are observation lounges, restaurants, bars, gyms and saunas, while Douglas Mawson adds a heated outdoor pool and two Jacuzzis. Greg Mortimer and Sylvia Earle also feature hydraulic viewing platforms that fold out over the water, creating unobstructed vantage points for wildlife watching.
