Hotel Saratoga, Havana, Cuba
Among the unique mix of Art Deco, avant-garde, colonial and eclectic hotels in this oh-so atmospheric city, the legendary Hotel Saratoga sits at the edge of the much-celebrated quarter.
Right on the Prado and fabulously located to explore the many delights of Old Havana, almost every major tourist attraction is close by, so it’s easy to take in ballet or opera at the Gran Teatro de la Habana, or drinks and dinner at the historic Hemingway haunt, La Floridita.
There’s also a gorgeously-chic little rooftop terrace and pool for drinking in views of the Capitol Building, Parque Central and Atlantic Ocean beyond. The traditional, elegant rooms and suites have a slightly retro feel, albeit with every up-to-the-minute amenity you'd expect from your swanky city hotel base.
Anacaona is one of the city's best restaurants, where buffet and hot á la carte breakfasts are followed by authentic Italian lunches and evening meals; or try the Cuban and international delights up on the roof at Mirador Saratoga, ending the evening with one of the best mojitos in the city at the Mezzanine Bar.
As with most boutique city hotels, activities are more about the destination than where you rest your head, but you will find a modern gym and small spa, free WiFi throughout (although, like the rest of Cuba, it can be slow), and of course there's that chic rooftop pool when you need some respite from the city below.
