    Rio de Janeiro

Stay: Santa Teresa Hotel RJ - MGallery by Sofitel (3 nights)

Land of carnival and the samba, free-spirited Rio is truly one-of-a-kind. You'll most likely be staying on Copacabana or Ipanema Beach which both have great stretches of sand and are close to the city's main attractions. Copacabana is one of the city's most urban neighbourhoods, an eclectic area best known for its glitz, glamour and OTT nightlife; while Ipanema – small in size, large in colour and loved by locals for its diversity – has some of the city's best restaurants and most sophisticated shopping on Garcia D'Avila. We also like upscale Leblon – home to a lovely collection of quaint bookshops, boutiques, outdoor cafés and the city's best restaurants. And don't miss Santa Teresa – the leafy, hillside, cobblestoned artistic heart of Rio (check out Parque das Ruinas for spectacular 360-degree city views) – its mansions now accommodating artist studios, restaurants, guest houses and an excellent bar scene.

    Iguazú Falls

Stay: Belmond Hotel das Cataratas (2 nights)

Few things are quite as awe-inspiring as the mighty Iguazú Falls, located on the border with Brazil, an unforgettable spectacle of 275 waterfalls up to 80 metres high. The surrounding sub-tropical rainforest has over 2000 species of plants, and all kinds of wildlife – tapirs, giant anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars and caymans – call this place home. On the Argentine side (where two-thirds of the waterfalls are located), walking trails weave between the park’s tropical rainforest and get you up close to the thundering waters – the most spectacular of which is undoubtedly the horseshoe-shaped Devil’s Throat. And on the Brazilian side, you may not get as close (or as wet!), but you do get the most incredible panoramic views.

    Your Stay

    Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

    Santa Catarina Coast

Stay: Ponta dos Ganchos (5 nights)

Known for its beautiful islands, mountains and almost 350 miles of coastline, the southeast state of Santa Catarina is a quiet corner of Brazil, where Italian and German immigrants have recreated a little piece of home. So as well as Brazilian beaches and trademark caipirinhas, you can visit traditional German-influenced breweries and Italian-style wineries. The capital, Florianópolis, has attracted sun-worshippers, surfers and pleasure-seekers for years (as well as Southern right whales who visit during the second half of the year), and is famous for its endless array of beaches, excellent seafood, quaint Azorean fishing villages and awesome nightlife.
