Château de Rochegude, Rochegude, Provence, France
A marvellous medieval escape in the Drôme Provençale with views over to Mont Ventoux, Château de Rochegude's 12th-century cellars boast some of the area's finest wines, so it's a great starting point for local tastings. Relaxation comes in in the form of the vaulted spa, the deer park, raised outdoor pool and expanse of terraces across the château's footbridge.
But whatever you do with your time, you're welcomed back with a snack of warm local truffles – thinly sliced, seasoned and lightly steamed with butter, accompanied by eggs and slices of toast – but remember to save space for the main event, Thierry Frebout's terraced gastronomic restaurant.
