DAY 1 Outbound international flight to San Francisco.

Stay: The St. Regis San Francsico (2 nights)
DAY 2 San Francisco

Start your trip with a guided tour of one of the world's great cities, taking in the Golden Gate Bridge and the teeny bonsai forest at the Golden Gate Park's Japanese Tea Garden; the lush Presidio – a former military base that's now a park, Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz – the world's most notorioius prison; and the city's trend-defining cuisine.
DAY 3 San Francisco to Yosemite National Park
Drive Time: 3 hours, 40 minutes | Distance: 188 miles

En-route to Yosemite, we thoroughly recommend a side trip to Columbia State Historic Park (and if time allows, the town of Murphys), for a glimpse into California’s Gold Rush Era. Highway 49 (named after the thousands of prospectors who pitched up in the Golden State in 1849 to find their fortune) has a treasure trove of Mother Lode towns with Old West architecture, historic artefacts, wine tasting and scenery that many visitors to the region miss.

Stay: The Majestic Yosemite Hotel (2 nights)
DAY 4 Yosemite

Yosemite National Park is home to thousands of waterfalls—from towering spectacles with a half-mile of cascading water, to tiny streams of white that drop only a few feet. Spring is the best time to experience them, when the winter’s massive snowfall melts away and heads toward the Pacific Ocean.
DAY 5 Yosemite to Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park
Drive Time: 3 hours, 55 minutes | Distance: 172 miles

Travelling south through Fresno, you may want to break up your journey and the Fresno County Fruit Trail or subterranean tunnels of the Forestiere Underground Gardens are a great way to stretch your legs.

Stay: Wuksachi Lodge, Sequoia National Park (2 nights)
DAY 6 Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

Sequoia and Kings Canyon are two of California’s most enchanting national parks, showcasing some of the Sierra’s most majestic mountains and gargantuan fauna (including Mount Whitney – the continental US’s tallest peak; the General Sherman Tree – the world’s largest tree by volume, and one of the world’s oldest at the grand old age of over 2300 years; and K
ings River Canyon, one of North America’s deepest canyons).

To appreciate as much of the parks’ rugged splendour as possible, you must hike a trail, taking in impressive collection of sequoias in Giant Forest, along The Generals Highway, and in Grant Grove. And don’t miss a visit to Sequoia’s secret underground world, the Crystal Cave, and a climb up Moro Rock for knock-your-socks-off views of the western half of Sequoia National Park and the Great Western Divide.
DAY 7 Sequoia National Park to Death Valley
Drive Time: 7 hours | Distance: 352 miles

This drive takes you via Bakersfield where you can stop for lunch before heading on to Death Valley via Lake Isabella. Take your time on this part of your road trip as the evening views over the 100-foot-high Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are absolutely irresistible.

Stay: The Inn at Furnace Creek (2 nights)
DAY 8 Death Valley

As well as Telescope Peak and Badwater Basin, the highest and lowest points in the US respectively, Death Valley also has some more subtle surprises, like the secret tunnel system beneath Scotty’s Castle, a remarkable complex built in the park’s far north corner, and outstanding stargazing thanks to the incredibly dark and super-clear night skies.
DAY 9 Death Valley to Las Vegas
Drive Time: 2 hours | Distance: 117 miles

After a leisurely breakfast, your journey takes you from one extreme to another, with a starry-eyed stay in the non-stop metropolis of Las Vegas.

Stay: Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas (3 nights)
DAYS 10-11 Las Vegas

Your Las Vegas visit undoubtedly revolve around The Strip, home to all the iconic neon lights and famous (albeit somewhat kitschy) sights. This is where Lady Luck will make or break your bank account, with table games and slot machines available along the entire stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South.
DAY 12 Depart Las Vegas on your international flight back to London Heathrow Airport.
PRICES 11 nights from £3,350 per person, including flights & car hire
