DAY 1 Outbound international flight to Montréal.

Stay: Hotel Le St-James (2 nights)
DAY 2 Montréal

From gleaming skyscrapers to the timeless charm of 17th-century cobblestone lanes, Montréal is a dynamic bilingual city with a medley of European and North American influences. From its ever-present festivals to its historic churches and bustling shops and restaurants, there's much to see and do. And you couldn't be better placed to explore Old Montréal, the historic centre of the city, set between the St Lawrence River and downtown skyscrapers.
DAY 3 Montréal to Lake Placid, New York State
Drive Time: 2 hours, 10 minutes | Distance: 114 miles

New York State is physically the closest to Montréal, so the Champlain–St. Bernard de Lacolle Border Crossing is just 50 minutes away, after which it’s a straight shot down Interstate 87 (the Adirondack Northway) through the beautiful Adirondack Park – known for its scenic mountain roads, quaint villages, extensive wild landscapes, vast forests, and the largest park east of the Mississippi.

Stay: Lake Placid Lodge (2 nights)
DAY 4 Lake Placid

Famous for hosting the Winter Olympic Games, not once but twice, but visit Lake Placid in the warmer months and there's you can still enjoy with more outdoor pursuits than you can imagine: explore the beauty and ruggedness of the Adriondack Park, Whiteface Mountain (New York's premier ski resort) and the Brewster Peninsula Nature Trails. It's also a real throwback town to the 70's: kitsch, funky and full of great places to eat, with lots of interesting historical sites including the not-to-be-missed Olympic Museum and John Brown Farm State Historic Site.
DAY 5 Lake Placid to Bolton Landing, Lake George
Drive Time: 1 hour, 25 minutes | Distance: 77 miles

The first part of today’s journey is a beautiful drive along the Adirondack High Peaks Byway, then continues southbound on the Adirondack Northway to the small village of Bolton Landing – on the west side of the lake, with all the charm and views of Lake George but less of the crowds. Nicknamed Queen of the American Lakes, Lake George is just 10 minutes away with everything from winter skiing to boat cruises, shopping to spas, rock climbing to whitewater rafting and tubing, to fabulous galleries and museums). And for theme-park adventurers, Six Flags is just 25 minutes away too.

Stay: The Sagamore (1 night)
DAY 6 Bolton Landing to New Paltz
Drive Time: 2 hours, 30 minutes | Distance: 143 miles

A magnificent natural setting, abundance of outdoor pursuits and a thriving cultural scene, the college town of New Paltz may be relatively small, but it certainly has a lot going for it (though staying at the unique resort of Mohonk Mountain House, poised on the banks of the Hudson Valley's Lake Mohonk, with over 85 miles of hiking, and mindfulness and wellness programmes to immerse yourself in, you may not want to leave).

Stay: Monhonk Mountain House (1 night)
DAY 7 New Paltz to Tarrytown
Drive Time: 1 hour, 20 minutes | Distance: 74 miles

The drive to Tarrytown is a relatively short one, so you may want to take a short detour via The Culinary Institute of America, where you can explore numerous eateries, which offer everything from coffee shops to fine dining.

Stay: The Castle Hotel & Spa (2 nights)
DAY 8 Tarrytown

A trip to Tarrytown offers the perfect complement of history, dining, shopping and nature – not to mention entertainment. From the majestic Hudson River views, including the Tappan Zee Bridge; and its historic districts showcasing 19th- and 20th-century architecture; to the many unique shops and fine restaurants, Tarrytown has something for everyone. We particularly like Patriots Park, on the border of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, where you'll find a popular farmers' market each Saturday and The André Captors' Monument commemorating the capture of the British spy Major John André during the Revolutionary War.
DAY 9 Tarrytown to New York City

Taking the Hudson Line train from Tarrytown to Grand Central Station (they leave every 15 minutes) and you’ll be in the Big Apple in no time.
