  • Days 2-3

    Washington D.C.

There's no shortage of things to do in Washington D.C., from taking in all the history found at the National Mall, exploring its vaulted cultural institutions, or even enjoying time in the great outdoors. The city's public side offers plenty to pack your itinerary with, and standing before such iconic landmarks like the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial is nothing less than awe-inspiring. But we love the endlessly-fascinating museums of the Smithsonian which could easily fill several days of uninterrupted explorations.

  • Day 4

    Washington to Philadelphia

Drive Time: 2 hours, 20 minutes | Distance: 141 miles

After leaving America's capital, you really shouldn't miss a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park – location of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Gettysburg itself is a really pretty town too, so it's well worth the stop, even if it's just to enjoy lunch or a light bite before continuing on to Philadelphia.

Stay: The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia (2 nights)

    Your Stay

    The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia

  • Day 5

    Philadelphia

The City of Brotherly Love, The City That Loves You Back, Cradle of Liberty, America's Birthplace, or plain-old Philly… Philadelphia has a lot more going on that just its nicknames. There's a real spirit of independence here, so start at Independence Hall, home to the Declaration of Independence and on to the Liberty Bell. With so many highlights (and so little time), it's definitely worth using one of our specialist guides, who'll help you see the best of the city, including a visit to the Eastern State Penitentiary, a prison-turned-museum where Al Capone was locked up.

  • Days 6-8

    Philadelphia to New York City

Journey Time: 1 hour, 45 minutes by car or 2 hours, 25 minutes by train | Distance: 98 miles

For those who think the drive to Manhattan sounds, well, ‘scary’ we of course can make arrangements to take the train. Arriving in to Penn Station you will be whisked away to one of the many luxury hotels featured within our portfolio, chosen for those who want to experience New York their own way. See our New York City Blog to help you choose which neighbourhood is the right one for you.

  • Day 9

    New York City to Boston

Journey Time: 3 hours, 20 minutes by car or 4 hours, 40 minutes by train | Distance: 209 miles

For us, the preferred choice of travel from New York to Boston is by train, ideally on-board the Acela high-speed train. It's a beautiful coastline-hugging journey, the section between Old Saybrook, Connecticut and Kingston, Rhode Island having the best scenery.

Stay: Four Seasons Hotel Boston (3 nights)

    Four Seasons Hotel Boston

As beautiful and stylish as historic Boston itself, in a fabulous location overlooking this colonial city’s Back Bay and Public Gardens, the Four Seasons puts the city on a hill easily within in your reach.

  • Days 10-11

    Boston

Boston is surprisingly compact: and it's possible to walk across the central area in little more than an hour. Charles Street will remind you of Paris, while Newberry Street bears a resemblance to London's Mayfair. The narrow streets and brick buildings give the city a distinctively-European air, and if you'd like to see more of what New England has to offer, it's definitely worth visiting either Portsmouth (one hour north of the city), Provincetown (90 minutes away by ferry), or Concord and Lexington – just 20 miles west of Boston and known for their rural beauty.

  • Day 12

    Boston

Depart Boston on your international flight back to London Heathrow.
