Hacienda Bambusa, Quindío, Colombia
Hidden among the lush, verdant scenery of Colombia's coffee producing region, Hacienda Bambusa may be a working plantation, but it's the ideal place to relax and explore an area rich in breathtaking scenery and marvellous flora and fauna, and inhabited by hard-working, fun-loving, open and friendly people.
The central courtyard is surrounded by just nine rooms, each named after a type of bird as a nod to the 127 avian species found in the area, and excellently equipped with high-end amenities and a private balcony (ideal when you want to relax with a book or take a siesta in a woven hammock, with gentle birdsong as your accompanying soundtrack).
It's a fantastic experience for families, couples, fans of the natural world, or the serious coffee-lover; and a brilliant base from which to explore The Coffee Triangle, its surrounding plantations, colourful colonial market towns or the gorgeous Valle de Cocora and Los Nevados National Park.
