Zona Cafetera
Stay: Hacienda Bambusa (3 nights)
Finding
a good cup of coffee can be surprisingly difficult in Colombia (most of the
good stuff is exported); but Zona Cafetera, where most of its beans are
produced, is always good for a brew and a lesson on the art of coffee
production. Comprised of the Quindío, Caldas and Risaralda departments (their
capitals being Armenia, Manizales and Pereira respectively), plus a small part
of Valle del Cauca, this mountainous region is one of the country’s most
beautiful areas and remains culturally tied to Medellín in everything from its
traditional architecture to its cuisine. But it’s not all about your morning
cup of Joe… Breathtaking views are found around every corner; and there’s a
rich tapestry of historic villages, fantastic nature reserves, grand mountain
peaks and all kinds of adventure.
