Amanpuri, PHUKET, Thailand
A cool alternative to the bling of Thailand's flashier resorts, Amanpuri’s charm lies in its stunning natural setting – a secluded hillside location overlooking the Andaman Sea.
Amanpuri means ‘place of peace’ so we reckon that this beautiful hideaway with its inspired mix of laid-back vibes and downright-heavenly service does just what it says on the tin. Thai furnishings, art and artefacts establish an authentic ambience, while private outdoor terraces overlook either the tropical gardens or the Andaman Sea.
Amanpuri offers several dining venues overlooking the main swimming pool and the beach. Poolside there's Thai Restaurant, Buabok which is open all day, Italian restaurant Arva (open for lunch and dinner), and the Bar which serves drinks and light snacks. Phuket-inspired hand-crafted cocktails and street-food are the highlight of The Lounge, while destination dining venue, Nama, showcases Japanese washoku cuisine in its purest, most enticing form. Down on the beach, the Beach Terrace features a poolside lounge and bar, with a seasonal restaurant serving International lunches from the live grill and wood-fired pizza oven.
When it comes to activities, the extensive Eco-Beach Discovery Centre boasts a nature museum, crafting area and daily programmes, while nearby, the Hot Spot – an adventure sport, music and tech hub – features a climbing wall, skateboarding half-ramp, recording studio and screening room. There's also a host of watersports on offer, plus island-hopping aboard one of Amanpuri's yachts or speedboats.
And if it’s absolute privacy and intimacy you’re after, take a look at the resort’s villas, each boasting several bedrooms, private pools and a live-in maid and cook to attend to your every whim – all overlooking the sparkling Andaman Sea. Happy days are shaped like these…
