Playgrounds of the jet-set; golf courses fit for champions, hotels you'll never want to leave… Europe's chicest destinations have never looked so good.

Summer in Europe still has a ring to it. Its restaurants, cafés and cobbles have borne witness to the greatest minds, to life-changing discoveries, to world-affecting events. No other continent offers such grand hotels that still set the world standard for out-and-out style, all sitting alongside outstanding natural beauty and diverse cultural experiences.

And whether you're looking for something that's particularly family-friendly, a dose of history and culture, or a spot of pure romance, the captivating Greek peninsula of Halkidiki; the super-glamorous Amalfi Coast or the scintillating city of Barcelona are all guaranteed to deliver.

Belmond Hotel Caruso,
Ravello

Anyone who finds themselves driving along the eye-wateringly gorgeous Amalfi Coast for the very first time may think they've already hit the jackpot; but once they find themselves on top of the world at Belmond Hotel Caruso they'll think they've died and gone to heaven.

Perfectly-placed to explore all the gems of the Amalfi Coast – gorgeous Positano, fascinating Pompeii, and the beauty of super-chic Capri, this former 11th century palace, teetering above hills of olive trees, lemon groves and grapevines is an ultra-luxe base and haven of tranquility that commands the ultimate views from its infinity pool – arguably one of the world's greatest – with a welcome that's as magical as the views.

On The Rocks

When it comes to a hotel's location, nothing impresses more than insane views and being as close to the action… or as far away from it… as you want.

And the cherry on top? Staying somewhere that gives you all this as well as envy-inducing accommodation and indulgent pampering 24/7. Between us we've seen a fair few of the best, but here's Italy's most thrilling threesome…

Le Sirenuse,
Positano

Enjoying spectacular views of Positano and the sea, Le Sirenuse has attracted Hollywood stars and revered authors alike since 1951, when the Marchesi Sersale turned their summer house into a charming hotel. This same family continues to run Le Sirenuse to this day, with its glorious summer retreat vibe radiating throughout.

Gentle activities here include a stunning pool terrace, full of lemon trees or exploring the coast on one of the hotel's boats. Wander amongst the property's beautiful antiques, gaze over the Positano panoramas from the Champagne and Oyster Bar or sit and enjoy a dinner full of romance at La Sponda, lit at night by 400 candles to create a magical and simply unforgettable atmosphere.

And don't forget to stop by the Emporio Sirenuse to pick up a gift or two, from Venetian glassware to award-winning 'Eau d'Italie' perfumes, created by the daughter of Paolo Sersale.

Awash with history, charming villages and unspoilt beaches, Halkidiki is a natural beauty in itself, and probably as close to heaven as you can get in Greece. Renowned for its outstanding natural beauty you'll find some of the country's finest golden sandy beaches, picturesque gulfs and traditional villages. Its mountains and valleys are perfect for walks and hikes and there are some fabulous resorts to choose from.

Sani Asterias Suites, Kassandreia

The best of both worlds – on the one hand, you're surrounded by green forests, white beaches and crystal clear Aegean, while on the other, you have the liveliness of the Sani Resort, with its buzzing marina, restaurants, shopping and sophisticated nightlife.

The suites are super-stylish, and the uncrowded beach superb; and yet this family-run resort (you can tell by the pride in its appearance alone) is absolutely spot-on for families.

With toddlers, the Babe Watch service on the beach is a godsend, while for adults we love the cool ambience and serene setting of the jazzy Water Bar in the evening; overlooking the marina, where an exceptional a la carte menu has been exclusively created for Sani Asterias Suites' guests by the resort's Michelin-starred chefs

Watch out too for Sani Resort's special annual events: the Sani Festival each July and August or Sani Gourmet (usually the third week in May).

Eternally on trend are Sani Resort's boutique Sani Asterias Suites and the gorgeously-intimate Danai Beach Resort and Villas, both set in absolutely stunning locations, with incredible accommodation and views that will melt your heart… It's pretty hard to choose between the two; so here are some pointers on just what it is that makes these resorts so individually-special.

Danai Beach Resort & Villas, Nikiti

It's hard to imagine a more idyllic Mediterranean gem than the pine-filled, peaceful and picture-perfect location that Danai Beach calls home, but add to this their keen eye for design, infectious passion for the finer things in life, unique activities for all ages, some of the finest dining in Greece, all topped off by the exceptional personal service throughout, and you've pretty much hit the jackpot.

From the champagne and strawberries at check-in to the option to bathe in milk and honey (yes, really!), everything here is designed to help you completely relax. The ultra-smart, uniquely-styled accommodation is spacious and elegant; one villa even has a vaulted living room ceiling that opens at the touch of a button for alfresco, star-filled nights.

We love the spa (naturally); and almost as restful is a sundowner (or two) on the Seaside Bar's sumptuous sofas overlooking the idyllic beach before dining under the stars at the spectacular cliffside Squirrel Restaurant.

Special Offer

Stay 7 nights and receive an exclusive complimentary upgrade from a Junior Suite to a Deluxe Junior Suite plus a special room rate reduction. From £1295 per person – saving £600 per couple, based on two adults sharing a Deluxe Junior Suite, including breakfast, round-trip Euro Traveller flights with British Airways and return private car transfers.

Coming Soon...
IKOS Resorts

Heralding a new breed of all-inclusive luxury to Europe (yes all-inclusive – luxury – in Europe!), two new properties will be launching in Halkidiki this coming May, courtesy of IKOS Resorts.

Both set in stunning locations on the Greek Riviera, the Hotel Olivia and Hotel Oceania are definitely the 'ones to watch' for 2015.

And  with their idyllic private beaches, a great choice of bars and restaurants, a dine-out programme for restaurants close to the resorts, and incredible kids' and teens' facilities, it goes without saying that we are VERY excited about these new additions to our European collection.

City in the Spotlight: Barcelona

We've been out travelling once again, most recently to Barcelona, with a visit to check out the super-special Mandarin Oriental.

Barcelona is awash with fabulous hotels, but after our fantastic stay here, we think the Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, housed in an elegant 20th-century building, with its quirky and creative interiors is just that little bit out of the ordinary.

Location-wise it's hard to beat: in the heart of the city, on the shopping mecca of the Passeig de Gràcia with everyone's favourite designer stores like Tiffany, Prada, Louis Vuitton, D&G et al, all on your doorstep. You're also just minutes from Gaudi's Casa Batlló, and within walking distance of Las Ramblas, La Sagrada Família and the Gothic Quarter.

When it comes to accommodation, the 120 rooms and suites are some of the largest in the city, with highly-stylised, spectacularly-creative interiors courtesy of leading Spanish designer, Patricia Urquiola. All come with private butler service, and our tip when it comes to which category of room to choose would be to avoid the Deluxe Rooms in the original building as they are unusually small, and opt instead for a Mandarin Room or above – and, if you can, try to book a Boulevard view for a birds'-eye view of buzzing Passeig de Gràcia's comings and goings. Or, if it's something even more extravagant that takes your fancy, then the penthouse has epic views of the streets below from its vast double terraces.

But it's the wining and dining here that will really blow your mind: start with your favourite tipple at the Bankers Bar, then head to the two-Michelin-star Moments, managed by seven-Michelin-starred chef Carme Ruscalleda, for one of the most innovative culinary experiences in the city.

Special Offer

Stay 4 nights for 3 and receive an €85 spa credit. From £2575 per person – saving £1700 per couple, based on two adults sharing a Boulevard Suite, including breakfast, round-trip Euro Traveller flights with British Airways and return private car transfers.

Valid to 30 Apr 15.
