Ready to find your island paradise where you can thaw out this spring? Lazing under swaying palms, wandering along miles of sugar-soft sands, or exploring the watery wonders of the Indian Ocean? But with so much choice these days, knowing you're ready to hit the beach and deciding which atoll to discover isn't always as easy as it sounds...

Each island has its own unique personality, inimitable activities and abundant marine life, so it's easy to get bamboozled. Which is why we've picked out four of our favourites to help you decide, from the small and intimate, to the super-rustic and brilliantly-quirky or the colonial classics full of fun for all. Each offers way more than just sun, sea and sand; some are ideal for families, others sheer heaven for couples, but all will help create lifelong memories for you and your loved ones, whether you're heading that way for the first – or fiftieth time.

Baros Maldives,
North Malé Atoll, Maldives

A favourite of the Eden team as well as our clients, Baros is a pretty, petite paradise that's exclusively for couples.

Full of true Maldivian charm, there's nothing flashy here, just a fantastic stretch of beach, three outstanding restaurants, an inviting overwater infinity pool and a rich, diverse underwater world that makes this place paradise for snorkelers too.

The romantic beach villas are well secluded within a lush natural vegetation, designed in a way that everybody has their own private space.

Six Senses Laamu,
Laamu Atoll, Maldives

Set on the island of Olhuveli, this is a seriously-cool palm-fringed paradise with villas set overwater, or beachside surrounded by lush forest.

Ideal for surf fanatics, the best time to catch the waves here is from April to October, when wind and waves are up, with the biggest swells likely to occur from June to September.

Being the only resort  in this atoll, surfers here generally have the break to themselves most of the time; and most famous break in the atoll - the Yin Yang - which breaks on the outer reef of the local island Hithadhoo, is just a short hop away by boat.

Non-surfers need not worry though, as there's plenty more to do. Send the little ones off to The Den while you head to the spa and indulge in a pampering couples' treatment in one of the spa 'nests'; work your way through as many of the 40 flavours of ice-cream at the Ice & Chocolate Studio as you can; or - for a true taste of the Maldives, experience a traditional Maldivian dinner in a local home on a neighbouring island. >>> See More
