Masseria Trapanà, Lecce, Puglia, Italy
Puglia's latest boutique escape, just outside historic Lecce in 24 acres of citrus and olive groves, 16th-century Masseria Trapanà has been completely transformed into a chic hotel by Aussie owner Rob Potter-Sanders.
Just nine stylish suites (some with an outdoor bathroom and private garden or terrace) are set amongst six walled gardens dotted with colourful hammocks and a peaceful pool, plus a bijou chapel with 6th-century frescoes and historical artefacts uncovered during renovations. Feast on a rotating menu of Cucina Povera (peasant cooking) with a twist, and don't leave without sinking a Trapanà sunset (vodka with home-grown, freshly squeezed blood orange).
