Jo has always had a huge soft spot for the Caribbean, and having stayed on various islands over the years, Antigua is by far her favourite.

And, despite the rolodex of resorts of all shapes and sizes, there’s one in particular she just can't get enough of...

We chose Blue Waters & The Cove Suites for our honeymoon back in 2010 (yes, time really does fly when you're having fun!); and since then we've been back more times than we can remember.

Quite simply, for us, it's the ultimate Caribbean gem, and in our opinion, great value for money (particularly if you stay on an all-inclusive basis, with cocktails aplenty, excellent five-star cuisine, and no nasty surprises when it comes to settling the bill at the end of your stay).

It's supremely romantic, overlooking the vivid turquoise waters that the resort was named after, set in acres of tropical gardens, with the most beautiful sunsets of red, yellow, pink and gold imaginable (perfect for those declarations of undying love) – so you can see why it's a hugely popular wedding spot.

But with an excellent array of accommodation (be it a Deluxe Beachfront Room, one of the exclusive Cove Suites, a private villa or the infamous Rock Cottage), it's also fantastic for families who crave an all-inclusive stay come summer too.

After the eight-hour flight from the UK, booking Blue Waters' VIP fast-track arrival service and luxury airport transfers is a no-brainer: you're at the resort, met with warm Caribbean smiles, and sipping on one of the legendary (and highly recommended) rum punches in no time at all.

We spend our time here doing very little indeed. During the day, we're generally worshipping the sun – at one of the three pools or down on the beach; enjoying the peace, quiet and stunning views; catching up on all the latest novels; and sinking a daiquiri (or two!).

By night? Well then we're working our way around the three restaurants (my personal favourite being the candlelit cuisine at the water's edge The Cove – if it was up to me I'd be dining there each and every night!).

What makes this place so incredibly special for us though is that it's family run, with a friendly, welcoming team attentive to every need: you can see they all really care about their guests – never forgetting your name, and making you feel like a member of the Blue Waters family almost instantly.

It's also incredibly relaxed, while maintaining fabulous five-star standards. But don't just take my word for it, join their hugely loyal following who, like us, return time and time again, and see just how magical it is for yourself… trust me, you really won't be disappointed.
